Figtree Childbirth Services

For the perinatal period.

Services I Provide

Doula Support

As your doula, I will meet with you and your partner prenatally to discuss your hopes for the birth. During labor I will give you hands on, continuous emotional and physical support until the baby is born. I’ll stay for an hour afterwards to help with feeding and then visit you at home in the first week to help with newborn care, see how you are recovering, and talk through your birth story. Once you decide to work with me I will be available by text, phone and email whenever you have questions or concerns.

I have supported hundreds of clients in hospitals, birthing centers, and at home. I know that there is no right way to give birth; I will be there for you and with you as you go through this transition.

The cost for this service is $3,000

Feeding Support

I am a certified lactation educator counselor and happy to provide virtual or in-home support for new parents who might need a little extra help with feeding their baby. Topics to cover might include:

  • Finding and maintaining a comfortable latch
  • Trying new positions
  • Figuring out options for pumping and storing
  • Understanding timing and frequency

Cost for this service is $250/ consultation with one week of unlimited contact afterwards

Placenta Encapsulation

Please contact me if you are interested in encapsulating your placenta and I will send you information on how to get the process started.

The cost for this service is $375

Clearing Space

As a doula I have found that having a clean, well-organized home can help with the transition to parenthood. Do you need help finding space for the baby’s things? Does your home office need to be turned into a nursery? Do you have too many clothes? Papers? Let me help you weed out some of your things so your home feels spacious and clear. We can do this before you welcome your baby home from the hospital or when your “baby” is moving out to attend college!

This service costs $150 for a consultation and $75/hr after that

Working with Sarah was the best decision I made after my son was born.  She has never failed to help us through a rough spell — breastfeeding trouble, sleep training, bottle refusal, and countless others — with kindness, patience, and an unparalleled depth of knowledge.

–Elizabeth Livingston

“Sarah was a gentle, steady and patient guiding force in helping us get my 10 month old sleeping through the night.  It was wonderful to check in with her each day and adjust the plan as needed.  We couldn’t have done it without her support!”

–Karen Miller

About Me

I came to this work after the births of my two children. Over the last nineteen years I have been consumed by curiosity: curiosity about anatomy and physiology, the medical model of birth, and the transformative quality of the birth experience. That curiosity has translated into lots of reading, research and discussion with people in many parts of the birth world. Shortly after my daughter was born I began the program to become certified as a childbirth educator. Up to that point, upon graduation from Brown University, I had been teaching theater and poetry in the public schools, performing with an experimental theatre company, and finishing a Master’s in playwriting from NYU. I am now a certified childbirth educator through CEA/MNY, a certified doula through DONA, and a certified lactation educator counselor through UCSD. I recently moved from Brooklyn up to Putnam County and I am so thrilled to get to know the birthing community up here. It is so nice to be able to say that I truly enjoy my work and I appreciate how it has sustained me all of these years.

Sarah was an amazing resource for us when we came home from the hospital with our baby boy. She immediately felt like part of our family, and was a source of comfort and reassurance, providing a much-needed sense of calm in our sleep-deprived household. She did everything from helping us develop a specific plan for our son to put on weight to running errands at Target for needed supplies. On the days when we were feeling overwhelmed, we were able to relax just knowing Sarah was coming over to help out.
